৩১ অক্টোবর, ২০২২- দাতব্য সংস্থা ‘ফ্রেন্ডশীপ’ এবং স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড বাংলাদেশ সম্প্রতি, কুড়িগ্রাম জেলার ঘুঘুমারী চরের ৭৫০ বাসিন্দার জন্য একটি পরিবেশগত প্রকল্প শুরু করেছে। এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় ঘুঘুমারী চরে ৫৪ কিলোওয়াট সোলার মাইক্রো-গ্রিড ও ৬০ টি নলকূপ স্থাপন এবং বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচী পরিচালনা করা হবে। প্রয়োজনীয় সুবিধাদি প্রদানের পাশাপাশি প্রান্তিক এই জনগোষ্ঠীর জীবনযাত্রার মানোন্নয়ন ও টেকসই অর্থনীতি নিশ্চিতে কাজ করবে স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড।
চরের ভৌগলিক অবস্থান, নানাবিধ পরিবেশগত সমস্যার পাশাপাশি এখানে বিদ্যুৎ, গ্যাস, পানীয় জল এবং অন্যান্য অবকাঠামোর ঘাটতি রয়েছে। এই অবস্থায় একটি সাশ্রয়ী সোলার মাইক্রো-গ্রিড স্থাপনের মাধ্যমে ১৫০টি পরিবার প্রয়োজনীয় ও টেকসই শক্তি ব্যবহার করতে পারবে। স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড-ফ্রেন্ডশীপ সোলার ভিলেজ প্রকল্পটি আঞ্চলিক জলবায়ু বিবেচনা করে ডিজাইন করা হয়েছে। এটি বন্যাসহ অন্যান্য প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগের সময় প্রয়োজনে স্থানান্তরযোগ্য। এর পাশাপাশি ৬০টি নলকূপ স্থাপন করে চরের বাসিন্দাদের জন্য নিরাপদ ও বিশুদ্ধ পানীয় জলের সরবরাহ নিশ্চিত এবং মাটির ক্ষয় রোধ ও কার্বন ফুটপ্রিন্টের ভারসাম্য বজায় রাখতে বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হবে। প্রকল্পটির শুরুর ৬ মাসের মধ্যে সম্পন্ন করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে। এই প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে আগামী এক দশকেরও বেশি সময় চরের মানুষ উপকৃত হবেন বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।
স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড বাংলাদেশ-এর পক্ষ থেকে ব্যাংকের সিইও নাসের এজাজ বিজয় এবং ফ্রেন্ডশীপ-এর পক্ষ থেকে সংস্থাটির ফাউন্ডার ও এক্সিকিউটিভ ডিরেক্টর রুনা খান ঢাকায় অবস্থিত ফ্রেন্ডশীপ-এর প্রধান কার্যালয়ে চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করেন। এসময় আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড বাংলাদেশ-এর হেড অব কর্পোরেট অ্যাফেয়ার্স, ব্র্যান্ড অ্যান্ড মার্কেটিং বিটপী দাশ চৌধুরী; ফ্রেন্ডশীপ-এর টেকসই অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়ন বিভাগের সিনিয়র ডিরেক্টর ও প্রধান মো: কামাল উদ্দিন প্রমুখ।
Standard Chartered partners with Friendship to deliver comprehensive environmental project in Kurigram’s Ghughumari Char
October 31, 2022 – Standard Chartered Bangladesh and Friendship recently inaugurated a comprehensive environmental project for 750 residents of Ghughumari Char, a remote sedimentary island in Kurigram. Under the framework of this project, the previously off-grid island will be supported with a 54-kilowatt solar micro-grid, 60 tube wells, and a tree plantation initiative. By providing access to essential resources, the Bank is lifting participation amongst marginalised communities and helping to drive sustainable economic and social development.
The char’s remote location, coupled with other environmental factors means that the small island is cut off from electricity, gas, running water, and other infrastructure. The installation of a cost-efficient solar micro-grid will connect 150 households to a much-needed sustainable energy source. This effort has been designed with climate considerations in mind – it is flood-tolerant and can be relocated in response to extreme climate events. The installation of 60 tube wells will ensure access to safe and clean drinking water for the island’s residents. Trees will be planted to arrest soil erosion and offset carbon footprint. All initiatives are expected to be completed within sixth months from inception and are expected to benefit residents for over ten years.
The agreement for the Standard Chartered-Friendship Solar Village project was signed by Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Charted Bangladesh and Runa Khan, Founder and Executive Director, Friendship. The agreement exchange ceremony took place at Friendship’s head office in Dhaka. Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing, Standard Chartered Bangladesh and Md. Kamal Uddin, Senior Director and Head of Sustainable Economic Development, Friendship were also present.
